One notable observation: Every single head in view is covered in black hair, save two. At least when viewed above the shoulders from behind I fit in!
If anyone is interested in seeing what the weather is like, I recommend wunderground.com. Xining is the capital city of Qinghai province. A few days a month, I'll be working from our office there. Our main office is in a small town 1000 km to the west at 4200 m above sea level (~13,700 ft). The nearest weather station is in the town of Yushu. Yushu is several thousand feet lower in elevation and somewhat protected in a river valley- so it doesn't get hit by the winds off of the Tibetan Plateau. Thus, the temperatures reported at Yushu will always be higher than where we are.
