Random Notes

Not much exciting to report today- got a ton of work done and have no
tasks remaining for PP. I enjoyed a beautiful fall afternoon and got
to walk about for the last light of the day taking photos. Around dark
I came upon a small flat bed truck rounded over with a load of oranges
selling at about 15 cents a pound. It was beautiful- a luscious mound
of color accented with little green leaves on a gray street. The
citrus fruits must be coming into season because instead of the
occasional cart on the corner there are trucks everywhere selling
oranges and pomellos and they're much sweeter than they were a few
weeks ago. I sat on a doorstep and ate two of my juicy beauties- the
skin puffed away from the tender fruit and nearly falling off. I sat
for a while reading the Green Hills of Africa, then wandered to the
night market and ate stewed pork ribs and fried rice before catching a
bus back to Bill's place.

Tomorrow we'll be flying out to that famous city and see what's become
of it over the past few years- I've heard many bad things but want to
see it for myself. Every time I tell one of the locals where I'm
headed their eyes light up and they speak the name over several times
with reverence and excitement and longing. It is an interesting place.

I'll try to post some during my travels over the next week.
